With over two decades of experience leading safety, compliance, and competency frameworks across Australia and some of the world’s most complex marine operations, Michaela’s career spans government, private, and global corporate sectors. She has held senior management roles overseeing compliance, training, and risk within diverse and high stakes maritime contexts.

Michaela helps organisations navigate the intersection of operational safety, regulation, and digital learning innovation, bringing a practical, systems based approach to capability development.

Through her consultancy, she bridges the gap between regulation and real world practice partnering with ports, vessel operators, regulators, and training organisations to design and implement systems that protect people, enhance performance, and sustain compliance.

  • Safety Management Systems (ISM, SMS, ISO, DCV, RAV) – Development, revision, and audit coordination ensuring compliance and integration across diverse fleets.
  • Competency Framework Design – Creation of competency frameworks, assessment systems, and authorisation processes that exceed regulatory minimums and align with operational realities.
  • Digital Learning Transformation – Strategy and implementation of immersive VR, eLearning, and digital induction systems to modernise workforce capability.
  • Risk and Compliance Strategy – Design and coordination of audit frameworks, risk consolidation, and continuous improvement programs aligned with AMSA and ISO standards.
  • Leadership and Cultural Development – Building inclusive safety and training cultures through leadership development and nonoperational learning programs.
  • Industry Collaboration and Advisory – Active engagement with AMSA, MSQ, MIAL, Lloyd’s Register, and industry working groups to shape policy and best practice. Expert advisory support for government and industry liaison bridging policy, practice, and operational reality across the maritime sector.
  • Led the design and implementation of the Port of Brisbane Safety, Competency & Training Framework (2023–2030) “Beyond to Certificate”
  • Founder and facilitator of the Maritime Industry Careers Group (MICG) aligning employers, RTOs, and government partners to strengthen the maritime training pipeline.
  • Developed a global training and simulation strategy for Svitzer, introducing immersive learning and competency based programs.
  • Implemented digital induction and verification systems that reduced compliance risk and training costs across large marine operations.
  • Delivered award winning safety and learning initiatives, recognised by Maritime Safety Queensland and the Maersk Group for innovation and operational excellence.
